There is nothing better than a good book, except maybe when it was free. I haven’t bought a book with the exception of a few authors that I have to have their latest as soon as it’s in paperback in years. I get all of my books from Amazon for free. Want to know how I read free books? Today I’m going to show you how to read free books from Amazon without Prime. Read on, dear friend.
Ever start a new book that you just cannot seem to “get into”? If you are like me, no matter how disinterested I was in the book, I refused to give up reading it because it seemed to be a waste of money to not finish something that I paid for. Maybe I’m
cheap frugal, but I refuse to shell out hard earned money for something and not get the full use of it. Books are no different than food in my house. If you buy it, you read it. It’s wasteful not to.
Now that I found how to read free books anytime I want to, even if I find a book that is just the most boring piece of literature known to the Free World, I don’t have to finish it. It was free so I am not wasting anything!
You don’t even need a Prime account to get free books via Amazon.
Up in the left-hand corner, if you hover over the “Departments” menu button, a drop-down menu will appear showing the different areas of Amazon that you can shop. From that drop down menu, find the “Books & Audible” section and then find the “Kindle Books” link in the fly-out section. Go ahead and click on “Kindle Books”. (See circled below.)
Once you have opened the “Kindle Books” link, you should see Kindle eBooks in large orange letters at the top right of their slider image. Directly underneath of that, you will see a list of options on where to go next. You are going to want to find “Best Sellers” in blue. Click on that “Best Sellers” link to get to the next step. (See arrow below.)
Now that the actual library looking page of Best Seller books has loaded, at the top of the menu you will see a link to “Top 100 Free” in blue type. This is the next step to getting to your free books. Click on this “Top 100 Free” link. (See circled below.)
You have arrived!!
All of the books showing are on the Free list at the moment. You can verify by looking at the bottom of the book title in red. If the price says “Free” then you are in luck. But before you get too excited, there is one more thing that you must pay attention to before purchasing so that you make sure that you don’t accidently pay for a book that you are wanting to be free.
At the right side of the product screen, there is a box outlined in gray. Within this box, there is a confusing mess of different pricing schedules depending upon your Kindle Unlimited status, the digital list price, the print list price, the Kindle price, and lastly a “Buy it Now” button. The area that you want to verify pricing in is the “Kindle Price” (underlined below). As long as those numbers read, “$0.00” the book is free. You may go ahead and purchase the book. It will automatically be added to your Amazon account.
