The more time I spend at Dad’s, the more I find that needs cleaned.  It probably doesn’t help that I’m going slightly stir crazy and and going out of my way to find things to do to keep myself from going absolutely crazy.

Since I’ve been sleeping on the couch (just so I can keep a better eye on him) I had to do something about the smell of dust & dirt and the horrible black streak down the back of the darned thing.

Don’t ask me what it is or how it got there.  I have no clue.  What I CAN tell you is that we bought this couch 26 years ago.  It’s still structurally sound, so I didn’t see the point in buying a new one when the old one is just fine.  I actually thought that this was not going to work and I was going to end up having to buy slipcovers, but hey… check it out!!

At my own house, we have only one room that has carpet, and that’s only because City Spouse and I have been arguing about pulling it up for years.  He doesn’t want his feet to be cold when he gets up in the morning.  I told him I would buy and area rug or a runner for his side, but he’s just not budging.  (Don’t worry… I’ll get my way sooner than later. LOL)

We bought this Bissell Spotbot to deal with pet stains and other issues on our couch and my chaise.  Even if they don’t vomit or anything gross on it, sometimes the smell of cat permeates the upholstery and I just need to clean it.  This has worked really well for us for minor things, but the couch at Dad’s was a totally different story.

So I got out my Spotbot, and purchased the OxiBoost (you add it into the cleaning solution; kind of like how you add OxiClean to your laundry to help fight stains) to get this thing clean.

I just had to Pet Urine Eliminator on hand (I think CS purchased it) so that is what I used.  I figured if it gets out pet stains, maybe it would work well on HUMAN dirt. 🙂

I didn’t get a good picture of it in all it’s black glory.. only because it was really pretty gross and I wasn’t sure if I was going to want to share this or not.  It’s a little embarrassing that it’s gotten so bad, but hey, if I don’t share, then those of you who have a similar issue won’t have any idea that it can be cleaned.

It’s always cheaper to be able to repurpose something that is structurally sound.  And I’m frugal like that.

The above picture is after a once over by the Spotbot.  You can see to the right just how much grime was set into the back of the couch.  The ENTIRE back and armrests were this horrible color.  I was starting to forget what color the couch actually was!!

As you can see above, I got out almost all of the horribly black streak across the back.  And let me tell you, it SMELLS soooooo much better now too.

Even though I didn’t purchase the Spotbot for this, and I never in a million years thought that it would work to get out all of that, IT DID!!

And I couldn’t be happier!!

I hate asking anyone this, but if you are reading this and would like to help me a little (I’m off work and making absolutely no money being here with Dad), can you please check out my GoFundMe campaign here?  Any help at all would be wonderful and such a blessing right now.  Thank you.
